IMPORTANT NOTE ON OUR TOURS
Here in Lapland we are a hardy bunch, and our tours take place in all weathers – so be ready! It will be cold, windy, icy or snowy but that won’t stop us having an incredible experience together.
Our 9 day expeditions require a high level of fitness and mental strenght. We cross varied terrain and you must be fit enough to help your team and push your sled on the uphills or in deep snow. If you are not sure if your fitness level is high enough, feel free to contact us and we will figure this out together!
Please be aware that we have an age limit of 65 years on that tour.
Husky expedition
If you’ve found your way here, you likely have a big dream: to experience a real adventure. The good news is, you’ve come to the right place. We at Petter Karlsson Sleddogs have the dream and we want to share our passion for dog sledding as well as our incredible nature with you. And the best way to do that is on our husky expedition!
What You Can Expect from a Husky Expedition in Sweden
We want you to get the feeling of being a true adventurer. For several days, you’re out in the wild, self-reliant and sleeping in tents right alongside your huskies. You will cross the mountains and frozen rivers and lakes of the Vindelfjällen Nature Reserve, the biggest Nature Reserve in Sweden, by the way.

Our 9-Day Tour - The Husky Expedition
The adventure begins as soon as you arrive at the kennel. You’ll meet the incredible dogs that will be your companions for the journey. The first day is all about getting to know your team, learning the basics of mushing, and preparing for the days ahead. The excitement builds as you pack your sled and gear up for the expedition. By the second day, you’re out on the trail, learning to mush and getting a feel for the rhythm of the journey.
Throughout the tour, you experience what the great explorers of the past felt. Each day brings new challenges and stunning landscapes. You learn to trust your dogs and work as a team, which creates a deep bond between you and your four-legged friends.
The nortent
When camping, we will use our north tent, which has a small stove that we will heat until we go to bed. Depending on the expedition, we will also be traveling with two smaller tents.
helleberg Tent
Depending on the expedition, we take our Hilleberg tents with us, which enable us to camp in the mountains even in stronger winds.
Can Everybody Do the Husky Expedition?
The husky expedition is the biggest adventure we offer, and it’s led by experienced guides, including Petter Karlsson himself. You don’t need to have any prior experience with sled dogs; we’ll teach you everything you need to know during the tour. However, we have the following requirements:
our Age limit
You have to be at least 18 years old to join us, the maximum age is 65 years.
Cold Weather
You have to be okay with working at temperatures under -20° C.
Team work
We work together as a team were everyone take over chores after arrival at the camping place.
physical fitness
You should have an above-average fitness level, which includes good endurance, balance and strength.
Level of experience
Experience with dog sledding is an advantage but not a must, but you should have experience with camping and e.g. longer hikes, bike or canoe tours.
Mental strenght
Prepare yourself mentally for long days on the sled, cold weather and camping with 5 people in a tent.
You’ll often need to help your team, especially when going uphill or through deep snow. It’s all about teamwork, and everyone plays a part in making the expedition a success. If you’re unsure if your fitness level would be enough, get in touch with us. After many years of running our expeditions we have a quite good feeling about this and we will help you decide if the 9-day tour is right for you or if starting with a shorter, 5-day tour might be better.
Personal touch
Incredible nature
Unique experience
Days driving your sled through pristine snowy landscapes, nights in a tent, enjoying dinner by the fire and life under the stars, what could be better!
The tour, day by day
Arrival day
Your guide will pick you up at the bus stop in Slussfors and take you to our fully equipped guesthouse, where you will be staying the first and the last night of the tour.
We will gear you up in warm overalls, boots and mittens, a sleeping bag with liner, headlamp and a waterproof duffle bag that you can put all your personal things in for the tour.
After that we go to the kennel for an introduction of mushing and meeting our Alaskan Huskies as well as packing all the equipment.
After dinner with your guide your are welcome to relax in the sauna or chill out in our cozy living room, and get ready for the adventure ahead!
We recommend to arrive between 14:00 and 15:00 to get the most out of the day.

After breakfast we finish packing our bags and head over to the kennel. We will prepare the sleds with all the equipment and food we need for the expedition, then we will hook up our teams and head into the wilderness.
We’ll drive into the beautiful Kirjesålandet Nature Reserve, part of the larger 5500 square kilometre Vindelfjällens Reserve.
Each day everyone assists with setting up camp and other chores, especially looking after your own dog team- with help from your guide you will become more skilled day by day in careing for your team.

We sled back towards the kennels across frozen lakes and through ancient forest.
Once we reach the kennel you will unpack your equipment and see to the dogs before the group goes back to the comfort of our guesthouse in Slussfors to relax, take a shower and a sauna. Your guide will join you for a last dinner to share amazing memories before we say goodbye.

Departure day
On the final day, depending on what time you will depart you can have a relaxing morning, enjoying breakfast and packing your things.
We will take you to the bus stop in Slussfors or to the flight transfer connecting to the afternoon flight from Arvidsjaur.

Joshua W4 April 2024Verified This was a great experience. I highly recommend Petter Karlsson tours, our guide Julie was very knowledgeable and kind and made the trip super enjoyable. Petters dogs are super friendly, they love to work but also love a scratch and pet. I loved all the dogs but one of my favourite dog was Gaga who lead my pack, every time I would put her harness on or take it off she would look up with dreamy eyes and as I would try to leave she would put up her paw to request my hand back. Overall this is a slick operation and it’s obvious the dogs are well cared for which I think makes the experience better as it’s not just about the wilderness experience but also about spending time with the dogs. The way they respond to strangers indicates they are trained well and cared for. In a last note the food was extremely good, it seems Petter Karlssons wife is an extremely good cook. Overall recommend this tour if you love dogs and are looking for a dog sledding experience in Swedish wilderness Louise D11 March 2024Verified Huski tour Amazing experience !The dogs are so cute and the tour was so nice 🥰 The guides have learned so many things to us It’s absolutely worth it Jessica D15 February 2024Verified Incredible Adventure where you get first hand experience We did the 5 day dog sledding tour. It was an incredible experience. I loved being able to be hands on, learning and helping with the dogs and the sleds. You learn so much in a short period of time. And the whole trip is done in the middle of a winter wonderland! Places you could only go by snowmobile or dog sled. It was peaceful and beautiful to spend hours moving through this scenery. It is an adventure as you are running a sled yourself and doing the work to take care of the dogs and set up the sled, on top of that you dive in and help warm up the cabin and get the water. I loved these parts but won’t be everyone’s desire. It is cold and you don’t have any connection to the outside world, no internet, and you light the cabins with candles. I would 100% recommend it. Karina was our guide and she was amazing. She can handle so much cold temperate with her bare hands and was extremely pleasant and taught us so many things. She answered all of our curious questions and joined us in our laughter. We left the trip wanting to do it again. Now we are gonna watch Petter compete in his upcoming race in March and cheer him on from a far! Floortje B15 February 2024Verified An amazing experience We had great expectations for this trip and can happily say they were all met or exceeded. It was a vacation we will never forget. The food, the equipment, the cabins, everything was well taken care off. We had Karina as our guide, who was very kind and her enthousiasme for working with the dogs was contagious. The dogs themselves are so impressive. So strong, smart and kind to humans. Everyone on their own sled, working together with their team of dogs to travel through the beautiful landscapes of Northern Sweden was an absolute dream come true. In addition, we enjoyed going back to basic a little bit. Cutting wood, getting your own water, having only candlelight and no electricity.. what an experience! Miroslav Král1 February 2024Verified Best 5 days ever I spent 5 best days of my life and my best birthday. Tour was supposed to be for 4 people, unfortunately all the other guests got ill and I had a private tour! Everything was perfect, lovely dogs and a beautiful landscape. Also the trip was more difficult than I expected especially on the second day, when we were going uphill in a fresh snowfall and a lot of work with the dogs but they definitely deserve the best care for the work they do. Big thank to the whole team, specially to my guide Sven. ACS O14 January 2024Verified Amazing Sledding adventure. I took this trip with my adult son and we had the most amazing experience, one we will treasure. Julie our guide was amazing and everyone we met in the wider team was super helpful. Their passion for the dogs and the sport shone through. The scenery was stunning and we can’t fault the expedition in any way, everything is carefully planned and thought through. You’re provided with all the main kit and despite harsh temperatures we were never cold. Can’t recommend the trip highly enough. Bonape3 January 2024Verified A unique and unforgettable experience in amazing landscapes We booked the 5 day tour and Julie was our guide. It was an absolutely magical experience and we made unforgettable memories. We are a family of four with two teenagers (17 & 15). You need a certain level of fitness and be ready to deal with severe weather (we had -30C), but Julie made it all work. The organisation is perfect, the equipment top notch, the food fantastic (grilled sandwiches on a campfire !!) the guesthouse clean and cozy. The dogs are first rate: friendly, disciplined and hard working. Lastly we got stuck because of the weather and Sven even drove us at short notice to the next town to catch the bus. Petter is a world champion, but our holiday was world class. Thanks to Angela, Petter, Julie and the team!!! Lara R31 December 2023Verified Incredible experience ❤️ We went on the 5 day trip- it truly was a white Christmas! The dogs were amazing - v well cared for. Our trip leader Julie was caring, patient and extremely competent and looked after us well. The scenery was breathtaking, and the chance to be in that kind of nature was very special. We all mucked in with making fires/chopping wood/bedding the dogs down etc which is part of the experience. Toasting sandwiches over a wood fire in the snow was a unique experience.I cannot recommend this trip enough. From end to end it was well organised, fun and we felt completely involved rather than just ‘passengers’ . Loved it. ejmills630 December 2023Verified Top of your bucket list The most amazing holiday! If you like dogs, are looking for a life time experience, want an adventure in a magical place, then this is a must do. We did the 5 day (3 days dog sledding) tour and it was incredible. Our guide, Karina, was fantastic - knowledgeable, friendly and professional. We had a great time with her and the other 2 guests on the tour. The dogs are all very well looked after and it is clear they are loved by everyone that works at the kennels. If you want to feel part of the team whilst on tour, then this is for you. Each night you help with the chopping of wood and dog food, feeding the dogs, collecting water etc which is all part of the adventure. Our dogs all had their unique personalities which we got to know over the 3 days - and didn't want to say goodbye. We also paid a bit extra to have an extra sledding day after the tour (as our bus was not until the early evening). We took the younger dogs out on a short sled ride to get them used to sledding and then resting whilst Sven cooked us a delicious chicken stir fry over an open fire.A great trip that should be on everyone's bucket list! Brian26 December 2023Verified What an amazing experience What an awesome experience . This isn’t a tourist sled dog ride . This is a mini expedition into the mountains . Over 100 km in 3 days driving my own team of 5 dogs (No whip needed just a good foot on the brake pedal ) . Very competent and friendly professional guide Julie ( also awesome cook ) and great food . Comfy warm cabins overnight . Truly great trip of a lifetime . Would definitely recommend and hope I will be back for moreTripadvisor rating score: 5.0 of 5, based on 52 reviews
