Dog Sledding Lapland

5 Reasons Why Dog sledding is the Best Way to Explore Lapland

Lapland can be explored in many ways, on skis, by snowmobile, or even through dog sledding. Today, we present to you five reasons why we believe that dog sledding is the best way to experience this winter wonderland.

1. The Quiet Way of Traveling

Winter in Lapland is known for its magical calmness. The best way to experience this serene silence is by traveling quietly. When you’re dog sledding, all you hear is the breath of your team and the snow under the runners. Apart from that, it’s absolutely quiet, giving you the chance to experience the unspoiled nature to its fullest.

2. Go to places where nobody else can go

The Vindelfjällen Nature Reserve is Sweden’s largest protected area, with many places that are hard to reach. But not for our dogs. On our tours, we travel on trails far from civilization, many of those are closed to snowmobiles, which means we are often alone for days without seeing other people. Especially on our expeditions, we venture deep into the nature reserve and the mountain ranges. Here, it’s just us, a tent and our dogs.

Tip: Our remoteness has another great advantage: an unobstructed view of the Northern Lights. The Northern Lights are most visible when there is minimal light pollution from nearby cities or towns. On our tours, we are so far from any civilization that we can enjoy the unrestricted beauty of the Aurora Borealis. Learn more about it here.

3. The Dogs

It’s a feeling that’s hard to put into words. Exploring Lapland together with your dog team is something special, because each dog has its own character. The longer the trip, the more you will get to know them and their habits, and they will get to know you. You will learn about mutual respect and trust, because that’s what dog sledding is all about. The dogs trust you to guide them, and you trust them to follow the right path. This mutual trust is unique and makes the Lapland adventure something truly special.

4. Spirit of an Arctic Expedition

Let’s be honest, we’ve all dreamed of experiencing a real adventure once in our life. On a dog sledding  tour you get exactly this taste of adventure. You enter unfamiliar terrain, have to adapt to the weather and go back to the roots by fetching water and heating the wood stove.

5. Please do not disturb…

This happens naturally as we are often in areas without network coverage. Our cabins also lack running water and electricity, providing the perfect opportunity to escape the hectic everyday life and constant connectivity.

Exploring Lapland by dog sledding is more than just a mode of transport; it’s an adventure that immerses you in the natural beauty, culture, and spirit of the Arctic. The silence, access to remote locations, bond with your dog team, spirit of exploration, and escape from modern amenities make dog sledding in Lapland the ultimate way to discover this enchanting region.
