Petter Karlsson is a well known name in the north of Scandinavia. In 2016, he made history as the first non-Norwegian to claim victory in Europe’s longest sled dog race, the Finnmarksløpet. The following year saw him triumph in the Femundløpet, and in 2018, he secured another Finnmarksløpet win, crossing the finish line just six minutes ahead of the runner-up team. In 2023 Petter not only clinched his third Finnmarksløpet title but also earned the prestigious title of long-distance world champion. This triumph wasn’t a one-time feat; he successfully defended his victory at the beginning of 2024 and his world championship title in 2025 at the Femundløpet with three hours in front of the the next team.

With four victories in Europe’s toughest race and two world championship titles, Petter has won everything there is to win in Europe. Now it’s time to set off for new horizons, for the last great race on earth: The Iditarod in Alaska.
Let’s bring Petter Karlsson to America together!

The Iditarod Race

The duel of the best through the wilderness of Alaska

Originating from one of the most inspiring stories in the history of mankind, the 1925 Serum Run, it is the longest sled dog race in the world. The musher and his 16 dogs are on their own for long stretches on the 1600 kilometres from Anchorage to Nome. It is one of the last big adventures!

The undisputed champion is the American Dallas Seavy, who has already claimed the title six times. In the sled dog world, he is regarded as the American equivalent of Petter’s position in Europe. The two have already met once, in 2018, at the Finnmarksløpet, which Petter won on this occasion. Now the mushing world is hoping for a continuation of the duel between their two top contenders, this time as a home match for Seavy. Which motivates us even more to compete!

ABOUT PETTER

At the age of 10, Petter harnessed his father’s two moose hunting dogs to a sled and a lifelong passion was born. In the end of the 90s Petter started his professional sleddog career and was able to secure the European Championship title in the middistance in 2005. In the past decade he has focused on the long distance races, a discipline that relies on strategy and experience. Here he has won the Grand Odyssée in France, the Femundløpet and four times the Finnmarksløpet, including the World Championship title in 2023 and 2025.

Today Petter and his wife Angela live together with their three children in Slussfors, Västerbotten, were they run their own kennel with 90 Alaskan Huskies. On their doorstep lies Sweden’s largest nature reserve, the Vindelfjällen Nature Reserve, the ideal base for long-distance training and tourist tours through the stunning landscape of Swedish Lapland.

“The Idiatarod is like the Olympic Games in my sport and being able to compete against the best mushers in the world has been a dream of mine ever since I first took part in a sled dog race. But until now it’s always just been a fantasy in my head. When I crossed the finish line at the Femundsløpet this year, I knew it. I looked at my dogs and I knew that now is the right time to turn this dream into reality. They are ready for it and so am I.

But for this adventure I will need more than just the support of my dogs and my family. I need people who are willing to support this crazy Swede with a dream. I am not just searching for sponsors, I am looking for people that know what it means to fight for a lifelong dream, what it means to work night and day to build up a team to succed, that never give up despite hard times or set backs. People, who know that mutal trust is the foundation of longterm success. Because that is what I am asking you for: To trust in me and my team. Let us write history, together.”
