How other guests have traveled
Saskia's family From the Netherlands
We took the Intercity from Rotterdam to the Schiphol Airport Amsterdam early in the morning. From there, we flew to Umeå with a layover in Stockholm. We arrived in Umeå shortly after four in the afternoon and took the bus to Slussfors the same evening. The bus ride was a real highlight because we got to see a herd of reindeer and even spotted an elk along the way.
ANNA From Germany
My recommendation for those traveling from northern Germany is to take the Stena Line ferry from Kiel to Gothenburg. You'll start in the evening in Kiel and the next morning, you'll arrive in Gothenburg. Don't miss the spectacular entrance through the archipelago! I then spent the day in Gothenburg with a lovely christmas market in the old town. And in the evening I took the night train to Umeå, where I arrived in the morning and could directly hop on the bus. On the way back, I took the night train from Stockholm to Hamburg.
KATHY AND JAMES From the UK
From the UK, it's hard to avoid flying. We booked our flight from London Heathrow to Umeå, with a stopover in Stockholm Arlanda. We arrived in Umeå around 8 PM and spent the night at a hotel in Umeå, which we got recommended by Angela. We highly recommend a walk along the snow-covered riverbank, it is very beautiful in winter. The next morning after breakfast, we took the bus to Slussfors, where Julie picked us up and took us to the guesthouse.
STEPHEN AND MIKE From AUSTRALIA
For us, it was truly a journey around the world, so we planned for a bit more time. We flew via Dubai to Stockholm. Since we were already there, we decided to spend three days exploring the city before taking the night train to Umeå. We arrived the next morning and only had to wait half an hour for the bus, which departs from right across the street. We were picked up at the bus stop in Slussfors. It was a long journey, but absolutly worth it! It's a journey I'd gladly take again any time, since we already saw reindeers and a moose on the bus.
